Indoor air pollution, yeah a fart is considered indoor air pollution also.

I always prevac, even if a customer already has, its a good habit because it guages how crappy their vac really is. only takes a few min anyways. and i can be sure that all the hair is in the vac and not in the waste tank filter.

i have at least 5 quality vacuums i keep at my shop for customers to stop by and pick up the day prior to me cleaning for them, that way i know it's been done with a properly working vacuum. if i'm there i show the the 4 corners vacuuming method and send a carpet rake with them to loosen matted traffic lanes (Ed York taught me that) prior to dry soil removal!!!

There is an inverse relationship between prevacuuming and the size of carpet cleaning businesses.

There is also an inverse relationship between prevacuuming and the profitability of carpet cleaning businesses.

You can tell a lot about a carpet by just taking a few moments and pre vacuuming it....
spots that may need some work......areas that may need extra attention...and as mentioned
the more you vacuum the less that clogs up your filters....

But that doesn't HAVE to be true! Its just that many of the guys who pre-vac are anal owner ops who don't know sh*t about running a business!

So who says I'm not allowed to CHARGE for pre-vaccing someone's carpets?

I used to give the option of them doing it, but got sick of half-arsed attempts that some people considered vacuuming, so now rather than argue I prevac... and charge for the privilege. Mind you, it's not billed separately, just factored into my pricing. Yes it makes me more expensive than my opposition, but I've found that business hasn't dropped off; in fact quite the opposite. Customers appreciate the fact that I give them better service than they're used to, and word-of-mouth advertising works best!

Is that considered bad business then, maximising the amount I make out of each and every job? It also means that I only do 2-3 jobs per day, without having to rush about like a lunatic, and still make more PROFIT for less effort.

PS If I have to pull out the scrubber, extra $$'s get pulled out of their pockets as well- why do extra and not be suitably paid for it??? :shock:

since we're beating a dead horse,remember to schedule a weekly visit to vac,and again,I will assume it is not lack of knowledge on vacuuming,but the lack of actually doing it that creates all the crap you say you pick up,so,I guess I have to go with Odin on this one,teach them and tell them how frequently it needs done,otherwise go see them every 2 days.

It's a bit of both Kevin, most people will give their carpets a "quick lick" and not vacuum them as well as they ought to, apathy is a fact of life! It's simply not that high a priority for them, let alone buying a vacuum that works on carpet, not just hard floor!

Mind you, I won't complain too much, especially when it results in their carpets soiling up faster and my being called back again

Clarification for Waldo the ignorant

1. We have never cleaned a whole house for $99, nor had any such special price.
2. Our clients pre-vac
3. Never hired a chimp~ my Cleaning Specialists are career employees making 50-70k PLUs medical, dental, vision, life, STD & LTD benefits, and a 401k retirement plan. How are your chimps paid, or are you the Chimp?
4. Because you can't, don't be so sure others can't, run a successful business, charging a "reasonable" price and giving outstanding service from the first phone call to the completed job. I would be happy to fax or email you a sampling of the hundreds of questionaire cards that we get each week that clients tell us we exceeded expectations and wrote notes in the area provded about how fantastic the cleaning eas and even more importantly how well they were treated by our office and cleaning people.
